It’s a new year and our brothers have been keeping extremely busy! But before looking back on an outstanding winter quarter, we want to remind all brothers that this year’s 6294 will be held on Saturday, May 4th at Tokyo Delve’s Sushi Bar (5239 Lankershim Blvd.; North Hollywood, CA 91601) from 6 – 8 pm. Guests and their dates are encouraged to arrive early, as there will be a show included with dinner. Anyway, here’s what the Alpha Zeta chapter of Theta Xi has been up to these past few months:

10 New Brothers

This January yielded one of the most successful Winter Rushes we’ve ever had! Our associate member education program has been recently revamped to better facilitate comprehension of our fraternity’s history and values—and with outstanding results, at that. Congratulations are in order to our 10 most recently initiated brothers: Eric Fornaciari, Scott Ewy, Timothy Le, Kei Frankle, Hagop Nazarian, Nick Greitzer, Ty Kaufman, Daniel Le, Enrique Orozco, and Daniel Ishak. This brings our total count of initiated brothers to 1,646!

Leadership Academies

This past quarter we had brothers in attendance at three different Theta Xi leadership academies: Rising Stars Academy, District Leadership Academy, and Presidents Academy. We sent seven brothers to Rising Stars and Presidents Academies, held near our national headquarters in St. Louis, MO, this past January where they developed their leadership skills and gathered ideas to strengthen our chapter in recruitment, associate member education, and overall operations. DLAs were held at UC Davis’s Beta Epsilon chapter this year, at which several brothers were in attendance.

Dance Marathon

Over a dozen brothers stayed on their feet for 26 hours straight at UCLA’s Dance Marathon—the largest philanthropic event on the west coast—in an effort to represent the mental, physical, and emotional challenges faced by children living with HIV. They spent the 26-hour marathon dancing, playing games and activities, making crafts, watching live bands and performers, and listening to HIV-positive children share their brave and heartwarming stories. Even more brothers and friends of the house helped out by accepting 3-hour “moraler” shifts throughout the event. We’re proud to say that we were one of the top-fundraising fraternities with over $7,200 raised to combat Pediatric AIDS! Our partners in Delta Gamma did an even more amazing job, raising over $12,500 for the cause!

Social Events

Newly-elected executive board officers and committee chairmen brought in a slew of changes to our social calendar, most notably to brotherhood and outdoors events. This past quarter featured weekly Friday night barbecues as well as a hike to the Hollywood sign and game of capture the flag held in Murphy Sculpture Garden. Most of the brotherhood was also in attendance at a house viewing of the Super Bowl. We’re looking forward to paintballing, skydiving, and more this spring! We also had a great time at various sober events such as ice skating and broomballing with some great sororities including Kappa Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, and Delta Gamma! And last but not least, Mardi Gras was back in full swing with one of the best quarterlies we’ve held in recent memory.

Alpha Delta Pi’s Lion King

Alpha Delta Pi held their annual Lion King Soirée this past quarter, at which their newest house sweetheart is selected. This year it was our very own brother, Zain Malik, who walked away with the crown! When asked during the competition what makes our fraternity so great, Zain highlighted our diverse brotherhood by saying that “you can go anywhere in the world and find a Theta Xi who’s willing to show you around town, tell you all the best places to hang out, or even host you if you just ask.” Several brothers attended to support Zain and enjoy the festivities.

Spring Sing

In other ADPi news, we recently found out that we will be performing with them in this year’s Spring Sing! As a part of UCLA’s oldest and greatest musical tradition, we will be competing against various other productions in this annual competition that brings UCLA soloists, duets, bands, and a cappella groups together before an audience of thousands inside the legendary Pauley Pavilion. Both of our houses have been working extremely hard on this performance and would love to have you to come see our act on Friday, May 17th at 8 pm!

That’s it for this edition of Alpha Zeta of Theta Xi’s quarterly newsletter! Our spring quarter currently boasts a full social calendar, numerous sorority philanthropies, extreme brotherhood and outdoors events, and the long-awaited 6294 alumni dinner so anticipate an even more detailed newsletter in June.
