2012 was an outstanding year for us here at Theta Xi. A record number of individuals (over 600!) expressed interest in joining our house. More than filling the empty space left behind by our graduating seniors, 43 new brothers were initiated into the Alpha Zeta chapter—one of whom was our 1,600th member. We earned the highest average GPA out of all non-special interest social fraternities at UCLA. We raised thousands of dollars for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and other organizations through our participation in Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, and numerous sorority philanthropies—several of which we even got first place in! We had the opportunity to interact with Los Angeles youths during our events with Pathways and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We were inspired by U.S. Marine Corps veteran-turned-motivational speaker Dave Barr at our annual alumni dinner, 6294. We witnessed the UCLA football team’s outstanding 38-28 victory over USC and even camped out for the much-anticipated reopening of Pauley Pavilion. And who could forget all the brotherhood retreats, date parties, hikes, raids, tailgates, Korean BBQ dinners, movie nights, Westwood outings, and road trips in between?
Needless to say, last year will be pretty hard to top. But if there’s one thing we’re certain of in 2013, it’s that this is going to be our year! It all starts here on our sleek new website which makes information about our chapter’s past, present, and future more accessible to everyone. Interested in joining this coming winter quarter? Visit the recruitment page. Don’t buy that we have the nicest house on fraternity row? Check out some pictures here. Have another question, but unsure of where to find the answer? Hit up our FAQ page. From now on, this website will be your one-stop-shop for everything Theta Xi at UCLA.
But it doesn’t stop there; we have many other plans in store for this year. We’re currently digitizing the contents of our test bank, making them accessible to brothers 24/7 from wherever there’s an Internet connection. Our house is undergoing some significant projects including the complete renovation of our basement bar, the installation of a deck on the hillside overlooking our pool, and the conversion of our backyard patio into an outdoor canopied gym. We’re excited for our new social calendar which has not only more sorority events than we’ve had in recent quarters but also more brotherhood bonding experiences, philanthropies, leadership academies, sports outings, and the like. Our Dance Marathon team is one of the event’s largest and most charitable, having remained in the top 10 ever since sign-ups first started.
So get excited! We certainly are, especially for Winter Rush. Last quarter’s yielded an incredible turnout and we’re hoping for the very same result this time around. Visit our chapter’s Facebook page for more information; otherwise, everything you need can be found right here on this website. See you next week!
