As we look forward to yet another prosperous and productive year for our chapter, we reminisce about some of the things that made 2014 so great. Here’s what we’ve been up to this past fall quarter:
20 New Brothers
They came for the Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle, but stayed for the brotherhood: Fall Rush gave us our largest Associate Member class in two years! We’re grateful for the energy and excitement these 20 fine young men have already brought and will continue to bring to our chapter. Congratulations to Sam Trumbly, Nathan Coss, Shiv Kodak, Jake Kauffman, Spencer Gilles, Josh Proal, Michael Reed, David Camus, Alex Fortini, Miles Picus, Mark Duyshart, Sean Joffe, Jason Alvarez-Cohen, Jose Gonzalez, Ivan Angelov, Arjun Vadlamudi, Jack Vorster, Matt Duyst, Rohan Sharma, and Chasen Novak on their initiation! With the most recently initiated of them being AZ 1698, our chapter is set to initiate its 1,700th member next quarter.
A(nother) Fresh Executive Board
This year’s elections brought out the best in some of our newest members. Congratulations to our seven new Executive Board members:
- President – Alex Herbert, AZ 1668
- Vice President – Sean Kennedy, AZ 1672
- Treasurer – George Abusaba, AZ 1652
- House Manager – Tyler Galdes, AZ 1661
- Social Chair – Kelvin Campbell, AZ 1657
- Secretary – Brendan Abadie, AZ 1655
- Scholarship Chair – Lee Melbourne-Weaver, AZ 1664
For the second year in a row, we have an entirely new Executive Board! It is our hope that these young members’ fresh and unique perspective on our house will continue to bring success in the near future.
Haunted House with Kappa Delta
This October, the brothers of Theta Xi continued their annual tradition of hosting a haunted house event for the children of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Los Angeles. Like other years, the event was co-hosted with Kappa Delta; but unlike other years, it was hosted at the Kappa Delta sorority house rather than the Theta Xi house. This lead to a few changes of the usual haunted house arrangement, like holding messy science experiments on the sidewalk outside and having pumpkin painting rather than temporary hair coloring. Over 50 Boys and Girls Clubs children attended the event and had a great time alongside the sisters of Kappa Delta and brothers of Theta Xi.
In other Kappa Delta news, the sorority hosted its annual flag football competition once again this fall! Our chapter competed in, and ultimately won, this school year’s Shamrock competition. We are so proud to have supported this outstanding sisterhood and Prevent Child Abuse America in the process.
That’s it for this edition of our chapter newsletter. Happy holidays, and we’ll see you in the new year!
